Reconstruction of Natural or Precast Stone Walls, Walkways, and Patios
Fairy House Restoration Project
Oxford, Rd Albany
This project initially started strictly to restore their existing stone walls and Veneering their current steps with bluestone. Unfortunately, the state of the structure of the existing steps was less than desirable, and before anything could be done to rehab the front yard, the whole staircase needed to be removed and rebuilt safely. Flash forward a year, and I was able to come back and dig into the stone walls and steps.
Over the last year, I had been able to develop a great relationship with the family while I basically moved into their front yard and spent the better part of a month with them. Their adventurous daughter would come out and visit with me every morning before preschool and on the way back in at the end of the day.
Flash forward to 2021, and I am finally back to take on the stacked stone walls and steps, and again, their little girl, a little more independent and curious, would visit me every day. We would talk about all the rocks, where they were going, why I was doing it, why I was here, Why did I make a mess.
She was constantly climbing, walking around, picking up, and exploring all around the yard. Finally, I felt inspired by her curiosity and imagination and asked the parents if I could do something for her.
The fairy house Idea came to mind for me, and I was grateful for the blessing to run with it.
Farmhouse Wall Restoration Project
This 1890s farmhouse has been well cared for by the family, but the front wall has slowly been sinking its way back into the dirt. It had become an out of sight out of mind project as it sat along the road and on the other side of the front yard fence. I was able to reclaim and reset the original wall, added in drainage behind it, and added some year-round color and foliage with some selective native planting.
